Lorraine qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from University College Dublin in 1999 and started her career in Our Lady’s Hospital, Harold’s Cross, Dublin. This was followed by a years experience at St Joseph’s Hospitals’ busy musculoskeletal outpatient department in Raheny. Lorraine has always had a passion for sports injuries and the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. As such, Lorraine attended the University of Queensland, Australia where in 2001 she completed the prestigious Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy with high distinction and was placed top of her class.

On returning home Lorraine worked in private practice treating a case load of complex musculoskeletal patients. She also enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Leinster Rugby Squad, diagnosing and treating a wide range of acute sporting injuries.

In 2003 Lorraine was off on her travels again. This time as Chief Medical Officer and Physiotherapist with the touring Riverdance troupe. This was a fantastic opportunity for her to be at the forefront of professional sport. Lorraine was a dancer herself for 13 years and so knows a great deal about dance injuries! After a year of being on the road Lorraine returned to Dublin to establish a private Physiotherapy Clinic for her previous employer in Naas, Co Kildare. She also at this stage became involved with the Irish Swimming Team.

In 2005, Lorraine took over the Mount Merrion Physiotherapy Clinic which is now known as TherapyXperts Mount Merrion. It was a good opportunity to combine her clinical Xpertise and business Xperience in a new and challenging setting. She is now practice principal alongside her husband, Simon Coghlan. Lorraine specialises in the assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal pain. Her areas of special interest are headaches, neck and back pain. She manages patients with a ‘hands on’ approach using manual therapy, specific therapeutic exercises and acupuncture/dry needling.

As an adjunct to Lorraine’s clinical and practice management work, she lectures at the University College Dublin (UCD). Here she lectures and examines on the undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy programmes in areas of manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation and pain physiology. She was involved in the establishment and accreditation of the Masters in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy at UCD which is the first and only course in Ireland recognised by the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy. This was a huge achievement for UCD and for physiotherapy in Ireland.

Aside from Lorraine’s work, she is a big fan of “Work-Life Balance” and enjoys yoga, running, swimming and surfing.....and of course.....travelling.

Lorraine’s ethos for TherapyXperts Mount Merrion is to promote clinical Xcellence in all aspects of patient care and to partake in and promote lifelong learning.
